Introduced in the year 1996 by the Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals Levaquin is commonly used for treating infection caused by bacteria in human beings. Levaquin drug falls under the category of quinolone antibiotics family, which is quite famous for its properties. It is used to treat bacterial infections related to sinuses,lungs,kidney etc and is also commonly used in case of inhalation of anthrax.
This popular drug can be taken in the form of tablets, oral solution, and can be administered as injection . Depending upon the medical condition of the patients, either of the above listed form of the drug is suggested. While the pH range of a Levaquin vial of an injection is about 3.8 to 5.8 the Ph range of the Levaquin oral solution is in the range of 5.0 to 6.0 . The colour of both the solution varies from clear yellow to greenish yellow.
While taking the drug with the help of injection we must make sure that it is injected correctly into the veins and not into the muscles. It is important that the medicine is slowly injected into the body has injecting it quickly would result in dizziness. It usually takes over 60 minutes to inject the dose.
Since the drug is available in different doses it is important that one consults a doctor before consuming it as the amount of dose required varies from person to person. While being administered as IV solutions it is essential that the solution is diffused slowly into the body for the same reason stated above. A 750 mg is diffused for over 90 minutes while 250 mg and 500mg has to be diffused over 60 minutes. Levaquin drug in tablets form can be taken even in an empty stomach. Patient must take lot of fluids while under the medication and must report any unusual change in hisher body to the doctor as it might indicate a side reaction.
